EC resumes replacement of lost Voter ID Cards

The Electoral Commission (EC) has resumed the replacement of lost voters Identification (ID) cards across the country.

This comes almost a year after it suspended the replacement process in order to retool the voter management systems at the district level for the limited voters’ registration exercise.

In a statement issued today [Wednesday], the Commission said individuals who now desire to get their cards replaced can proceed to the EC’s district offices from Thursday, August 8, 2019, at a fee of Ghc 5.00.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to announce for the information of the General Public that it would resume the replacement of lost Voter ID cards in all its districts offices nationwide from Thursday 8th of August, 2019. To replace a lost Voter ID card, an applicant would be required to pay a replacement fee of GHC 5.00”, the statement from the EC said.

The fees are to be paid at any GCB Bank across the country.

“Fees are to be paid into the Commission’s Bank Account and the payslip submitted to the District Office where the initial registration took place. Fees may be paid at any branch of the GCB Bank nationwide.”, the EC further stated.

The replacement of lost voter ID cards is done at all district offices nationwide at the specified fee.

Any person who loses his voter I.D. card should within 7 days, report the loss in person to the District Officer of the Commission or to the nearest police station.

The police officer in charge will, in turn, report the loss to the District Officer of the Commission within 7 days of the receipt of the report.
